editorial standards

Well Balance Counseling & Performance (Well Balance, LLC) publishes educational content about mental health, athlete well-being, performance, and related topics. These standards explain how we work to make that content useful, credible, and transparent.

Purpose and audience

Our public content is designed to help athletes, parents, coaches, organizations, and community members better understand mental-health and performance topics. It is educational and general; it is not individualized assessment, diagnosis, treatment, or emergency guidance.

Authorship and credentials

Articles identify the author and relevant credentials. Content written by Liz Moeller should use the credential line that accurately reflects current licensure and scope: “Liz Moeller, MS, LAC, LPC-MH”. Guest contributions identify the contributor and relevant role or qualifications.

Sources and evidence

·  We favor primary research, systematic reviews, professional guidelines, government sources, and recognized sports or healthcare organizations.

·  We link to or cite sources closely enough that readers can find the underlying material.

·  We distinguish research findings from professional interpretation, practical suggestions, and opinion.

·  We avoid overstating causation, certainty, prevalence, or the generalizability of a single story or study.

·  When discussing current news, we verify dates and distinguish the date of publication from the date an event occurred.

Clinical and performance boundaries

We do not diagnose people discussed in public stories, including athletes and public figures. We avoid speculation about private health information and use respectful, person-centered language. We distinguish clinical counseling from mental-performance education and clarify when a topic requires evaluation by a licensed healthcare professional.

Review before publication

Before publication, content is reviewed for factual accuracy, source quality, clarity, scope, potentially stigmatizing language, privacy concerns, conflicts of interest, and whether a crisis or medical disclaimer is needed. Higher-risk topics—such as suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, substance use, abuse, or legal rights—receive additional care and may be reviewed by an appropriately qualified professional.

AI-assisted tools

Well Balance may use artificial-intelligence-assisted tools to support tasks such as brainstorming, outlining, editing, formatting, or locating potential sources. AI output is not treated as an authoritative source. A named human author reviews, verifies, revises, and takes responsibility for the final content. Sources are checked directly before publication. We do not enter client-identifying information or protected health information into public generative-AI tools.

Current stories and the “Beyond the Scoreboard” series

Round-up posts and the Beyond the Scoreboard series use current stories as a starting point. We link to the original reporting, research, or announcement; summarize only what is necessary; identify what is known and uncertain; and add Well Balance’s professional interpretation for athletes, coaches, parents, and sports organizations. We do not present another publication’s reporting as our own or substitute a social post for the complete source.

Corrections and updates

Substantive articles display a publication date and, when materially revised, an updated date. We correct meaningful factual errors promptly and explain material corrections when context would help readers. Minor spelling, formatting, or clarity edits may be made without a correction note. Readers may report a possible error to: liz@wellbalancesf.com.

Conflicts, sponsorships, and endorsements

We disclose material financial relationships, sponsorships, affiliate links, free products, or other conflicts that could reasonably affect how readers view a recommendation. Mentioning or linking to a person, organization, product, or article does not necessarily mean endorsement.

Privacy, dignity, and lived experience

We obtain appropriate permission before publishing identifiable client stories or testimonials and do not imply that a person is a client without authorization. When examples are composites or details have been changed, we say so. Testimonials are not promises of results. We aim to center dignity, avoid sensational framing, and include help-seeking resources when the subject warrants them.
